Muskingum & World Timeline
Muskingum University will celebrate its 175th anniversary this April. Since its doors opened in 1837, the university has witnessed triumph and sadness through the eyes of the campus and the world. From the day it was founded in 1837, Muskingum has inaugurated 20 presidents and has been the alma mater to several significant alums that have gained achievements in various fields from entertainment to technology. New academic buildings have been constructed, while Paul Hall, one of Muskingum's first buildings, whose history dates back 139 years, is still in existence. In 2009, Muskingum College said goodbye to the seniors and welcomed in the first freshmen into what is now called Muskingum University.
On Wednesday Jan. 25, WMCO will begin the events for its fifth annual WMCO Weekend.
Muskingum University hopes to build its own solar field
Muskingum University has proposed the installation of a solar field to be placed at the current Donna Newberry Softball Field, with car ports over the Stag/Stadium Heights and North Kelley parking lots. If completed, the field is expected to generate 20 to 22 percent of the university's energy.

Due to the heavy rains that the New Concord area receives, dozens of slumps and scarps, bodies of soil that move downhill, exist on and around the Muskingum University campus. The area around Walter Hall began showing signs of a slump in March, below a drain pipe where the soil beneath the pipe may have become oversaturated.

Muskingum’s response to Active Shooter Training
University Police Officer Bethany L. Hayes began teaching active shooter situation training sessions this semester. Her presentations have been shown to all first year seminar classes and faculty/staff members. Up to now, almost 300 students and faculty/staff members have received training.

This year Muskingum University Campus Police are taking a more positive role on campus by trying to be proactive in their interactions with the community.
After trying, unsuccessfully, for several years to create a Muskingum chapter of Iota Phi Theta, students appear to be making real progress this year in establishing a presence for the organization on campus.
The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a program that will be extending its services to Muskingum University this year to help disabled students on campus get summer, or even full-time, employment through federal and private work sites throughout the United States.

P.J. Country Fixin's, a new restaurant at 41 E. Main St. in New Concord, had its grand opening on Aug. 30, 2011.
The Communications, Media, and Theatre Department open house kicked off at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. As the visitors arrived in the ’Thompson Theatre, one of the first sights was the overflowing orange shopping cart at centre-stage. Inside, a piñata, a case of Ramen Noodles, hotdog buns, and something purple and fuzzy were visible.
