Last week, Kent State announced that football coach Doug Martin isn't going anywhere. Whether it's because the department really believes in him, which I think it has to, or because it can't afford to pay two head coaches is something we'll never truly know.

New Marco not making good first impression

The Parthenon, Marshall University, WV

16 hours ago by Tom Bragg

A lot has been said in the days since the new version of Marco was unveiled before Marshall's homecoming game against UCF. Most of the chatter has not been favorable, but there is a minority of people who like the new costume.

To those people I say this: Have you actually seen that monstrosity?

Why did the university see fit to destroying an icon at Marshall by parading this abomination around at sporting events? I understand the old suits were in need of repair, but did they have to go and totally change all that was holy and good about Marco?

The Parthenon ran a photo in yesterday's edition with the headline, "New Marco is a hit with kids", but are toddlers really the people we want to trust the opinion of on this issue? Have you seen the terrible stuff on television that entertains kids? Check out, "Yo, Gabba Gabba!" on Nickelodeon some morning and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Jim Tressel awoke to the same words Monday morning that he did seven years ago.

"Good morning, it's five o'clock, it's Ohio State-Michigan Week."

After two wins to the start the 2008-09 season, it is evident that Marshall head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick doesn't mess around with his lineup with the game on the line.

Out with the youth and in with the experience.

Loss to BSU reflects season on gridiron

The few, and (perhaps) proud, RedHawk fans who braved the elements to take in the matchup of the Miami RedHawks and Ball State Cardinals Tuesday night were witnesses to a microcosm of the football team's season.

While the first half treated those in attendance to the potential of what this season could have been for the RedHawks and their supporters, the second half demonstrated the disappointing reality that has been the prevailing story line for most of the year.

Though polls place the No. 10 Miami University men's ice hockey team well ahead of No. 17 Michigan State University, the upcoming series in East Lansing, Mich. is bound to be closer than those numbers convey.

When you ask an American what their favorite soccer club is, the most common response is either "I hate soccer" or a laundry list of the European Giants like Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan or AS Roma. Have you ever heard anyone say something like, "I am a hardcore supporter of DC United" or maybe "Chicago Fire is my club?"

The answer is no you haven't, at least not often enough.
